As a continued partner of Operation Happy Nurse, we were beyond excited to create this bundle to help support their mission. Operation Happy Nurse is a 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to help all nurses struggling with stress, anxiety, and/or depression by offering a community focused on improving overall mental health and physical wellbeing. Their online community is available to all nurses free of charge regardless of their tenure, level, or specialty. Since the onset of the pandemic in 2020, we began sending hand sanitizer and other goods to local nurses and from there, our connection to this community grew. Taking care of those that take care of us really resonates with OFRA and our mission to create a space where people feel as good as they look.
Shannon McPeek, the founder of OHN, describes why she started the organization:
My name is Shannon McPeek, I am a NICU nurse and founder of the 501c3 non-profit organization Operation Happy Nurse. At the beginning of my career, I experienced crippling anxiety associated with the profession. I had never really had to deal with death before, and now I was expected to cope with the death of infants. I had a friend approach me. He told me I wasn't as kind and compassionate as I once was, that I was more withdrawn. I started speaking to other nurses and realized that I was not alone and that the mental health pandemic was plaguing the nursing community. After two years in the field, I decided I had to do something about it. That was in 2018... Since the pandemic hit, the situation has worsened. A recent study by the International Council of Nurses found that burnout rates in Nursing were 40 percent before the pandemic – and now the figure has grown to 70 percent (Jan. 2021). We need your help. Operation Happy Nurse is a free stress relief community for nurses but needs funds to sustain. This bundle was curated to keep this stress relief haven available to nurses and to fight the nursing shortage through mental health resources. It's time we care for the caregiver.
